Family Friendly 3-Day Itinerary for Amritsar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Golden Temple
    15 minutes (3.5 km) from Amritsar Airport

    The Golden Temple is the holiest site of Sikhism and a must-visit attraction in Amritsar. Start your day early to witness the Palki Sahib ceremony where the Sikh holy book, Guru Granth Sahib, is carried into the temple. Afterward, take a tour of the temple and learn about the Sikh culture and history. Take a break and have a delightful langar (community meal) served in the temple's dining hall. In the evening, return to the temple to witness the beautiful night ceremony of the Guru Granth Sahib being carried to its resting place.

  2. Day 2: Jallianwala Bagh and Wagah Border
    5 minutes (1.2 km) from Golden Temple to Jallianwala Bagh, 45 minutes (32.8 km) from Jallianwala Bagh to Wagah Border

    Start your day with a visit to Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden infamous for the 1919 Amritsar Massacre. Visit the Martyrs' Gallery museum to learn about the tragedy and the Indian freedom struggle. In the afternoon, head to Wagah Border, the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan. Enjoy the entertaining and patriotic flag lowering ceremony. Return to Amritsar for dinner and rest.

  3. Day 3: Gobindgarh Fort and Ram Bagh
    20 minutes (5.2 km) from Wagah Border to Gobindgarh Fort, 15 minutes (4.5 km) from Gobindgarh Fort to Ram Bagh

    Spend your last day exploring the Gobindgarh Fort, a historic fort that has served as a royal residence, a garrison, and a jail. Take a guided tour of the fort, watch the 7-D show, and enjoy the live performances. In the afternoon, visit Ram Bagh, a beautiful garden built by the fourth Sikh guru, Guru Ram Das. Take a stroll, enjoy the musical fountain show, and have a picnic. End your day with some street food and souvenir shopping in the nearby Hall Bazaar.

Don't miss the Partition Museum to learn about India's partition history. A day trip to the Harike Wetland and Wildlife Sanctuary is also a great idea to get close to nature and wildlife. Make sure to try out the local Punjabi cuisine, especially Amritsari Kulcha, Tandoori Chicken, and Lassi.
