Two-Day Nature Itinerary in Coorg - July 2023

  1. Day 1: Abbey Falls
    30 minutes (8.9 miles) from Madikeri

    Start your day with a refreshing visit to Abbey Falls, where the charming sound of the water cascading down the rocks creates a calming atmosphere. Take a light walk to the falls, and don't forget to bring a camera to capture stunning views of the water and surrounding greenery. Afterward, you can wander through the coffee plantations surrounding the falls.

    For lunch, head to Coorg Cuisine Restaurant, which offers local delicacies like pandi curry (pork curry) and akki roti (rice flour bread).

    Spend your afternoon exploring the Dubare Elephant Camp. You can observe the elephants and learn about their feeding habits, bathing rituals, and how they are trained by the mahouts. You can also take a coracle ride in the nearby river or go on a nature walk.

    In the evening, relax and unwind at Raja's Seat, a scenic park with breathtaking views of the hills and valleys. Witness the sunset and enjoy the musical fountain show.

  2. Day 2: Nagarhole National Park

    For a thrilling experience, head to Nagarhole National Park early in the morning for a wildlife safari. Spot wild animals like elephants, tigers, leopards, and jackals in their natural habitat. The park also boasts of a variety of birds and reptiles making it a popular destination for birdwatchers and herpetologists.

    For lunch, you can pack a picnic or head to Kaveri Nisargadhama, a beautiful island formed by River Kaveri. You can enjoy your lunch amidst serene surroundings and also visit the deer park, rabbit park, and elephant rides.

    In the afternoon, visit the Talacauvery and Bhagamandala temples. Talacauvery is the source of River Kaveri, and the temple dedicated to Lord Brahma is located there. Bhagamandala is a sacred place where River Kaveri merges with the Bay of Bengal Sea.

    End your day by visiting the Omkareshwara Temple, a unique blend of Islamic and Gothic architectural styles. The temple is also famous for its water tank, which is believed to have healing powers.
