3-Day Nature Itinerary for Wayanad in September 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (10.1 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with the trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The morning breeze and the beautiful view from the top are worth the effort. In the afternoon, head to Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Take a pedal boat ride or go for a nature walk around the lake. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Kerala. You can take a dip in the pool beneath the falls or just relax by the side.

  2. Day 2: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 20 minutes (39.6 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a jungle safari at Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary. You can spot elephants, tigers, leopards, deer, and many other animals. After the safari, head to the Edakkal Caves, a set of natural caves with ancient rock art. Trek up to the caves for a panoramic view of the surrounding hills. In the evening, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. Take a boat ride in the reservoir or go for a nature walk around the dam.

  3. Day 3: Kuruva Island
    1 hour 10 minutes (33.8 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a visit to Kuruva Island, a group of islands in the middle of the Kabini River. Take a bamboo raft ride or go for a nature walk in the forest. In the afternoon, visit the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, another popular wildlife sanctuary in Wayanad. You can spot elephants, deer, monkeys, and many other animals here. In the evening, visit the Chethalayam Waterfalls, a hidden gem tucked away in the forest. You can take a dip in the pool beneath the falls or just relax by the side.

If you have more time, you can visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum, the Jain Temple at Sulthan Bathery, and the Neelimala View Point. You can also take a day trip to the nearby towns of Coorg and Ooty.
