Cambodia 4-Day Itinerary in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Explore Angkor Wat
15 minutes (5 miles) from Siem Reap city centre

Start your first day in Cambodia by exploring the magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site, Angkor Wat. Take a guided tour to learn about the history behind the stunning temples and get a chance to witness the sunrise over the iconic Angkor Wat temple. Spend the afternoon visiting other temples in the Angkor Archaeological Park, including Bayon Temple and Ta Prohm Temple, which has been left in a state of eerie yet beautiful ruin. End your day by enjoying a traditional Khmer meal.

  2. Day 2: Visit Phnom Penh
5 hours (230 miles) from Siem Reap city centre

Take a trip to Cambodia's capital city, Phnom Penh. Start your day by visiting the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda to witness Cambodia's traditional architecture. Later, visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to learn about Cambodia's tragic history under the Khmer Rouge regime. End the day by watching a traditional Apsara dance performance and enjoying Cambodian delicacies at the night market.

  3. Day 3: Relax on Koh Rong Island
3.5 hours (150 miles) from Phnom Penh

Escape the city and head to Cambodia's picturesque white-sand beaches on Koh Rong Island. Spend your day relaxing on the beach, snorkelling in crystal-clear waters, or exploring the lush jungle. Try some delicious seafood and catch the stunning sunset while sipping on a refreshing cocktail.

  4. Day 4: Explore Battambang
6 hours (200 miles) from Koh Rong Island

Take a trip to the laid-back city of Battambang. Start your day by visiting the Killing Cave of Phnom Sampeau, a sombre reminder of the Khmer Rouge regime. Take a scenic ride on the Bamboo Train, which was originally used to transport goods but now serves as a popular tourist attraction. End your day at the Phare Ponleu Selpak, a non-profit organisation that aims to uplift the community through art, and watch a mesmerising acrobatic performance.

Recommendations

Don't miss out on the Tonle Sap Lake, one of the largest freshwater lakes in Southeast Asia. Take a boat tour to witness the floating villages and learn about the lifestyles of the people living on the lake. If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to the Banteay Chhmar temple, which is located in a remote area and is surrounded by stunning rice paddies.

To make the most of your trip, try to immerse yourself in the local culture by taking a cooking class, learning some Khmer phrases, and trying out the local street food.
