Family Friendly 3-Day Itinerary for Mathura in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Dwarkadhish Temple
    20 minutes (2.6 km) from Mathura Junction Railway Station

    Start your day by visiting the famous Dwarkadhish Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Krishna. The temple is decorated beautifully with lights and flowers. You can witness the morning aarti which is a beautiful experience. For afternoon, head to Brijwasi Mithai Wala which is famous for their sweets like peda and laddu. In the evening, visit the Krishna Janmabhoomi Temple Complex to learn more about the birthplace of Lord Krishna.

  2. Day 2: Mathura Museum and Kusum Sarovar
    15 minutes (3.4 km) from Dwarkadhish Temple

    Start your day by visiting the Mathura Museum which displays sculptures, coins, paintings, and artifacts from the Maurya, Shunga, Kushana and Gupta periods. Afternoon, head to Vishram Ghat to take a dip in the holy waters of Yamuna River. In the evening, visit Kusum Sarovar, a beautiful tank surrounded by stairs. It is said that Radha and Krishna used to meet here.

  3. Day 3: Barsana and Nandgaon
    60 minutes (25 km) from Kusum Sarovar

    Start your day by visiting Barsana, a town famous for the Lathmar Holi festival. The town has many temples dedicated to Radha Rani like Shriji Temple, Radha Rani Temple, and Maan Mandir. In the afternoon, head to Nandgaon, the birthplace of Lord Krishna's father Nanda. You can visit the Nand Bhavan, Pavan Sarovar, and Nandalaya Temple. In the evening, head back to Mathura after a long day.

Make sure to attend the evening aarti at Dwarkadhish Temple. Also, don't miss the opportunity to try the delicious street food in Mathura like kachori, chaat, chole bhature, and samosa. If you have an extra day, you can visit Agra to see the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri, an abandoned city built by Mughal Emperor Akbar.
