Exploring Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    30 minutes (15.7 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock carvings and paintings. Enjoy a scenic trek to the caves. In the afternoon, head to the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall amidst lush greenery. Take a dip in the pool beneath the falls. In the evening, explore the quaint town of Kalpetta and enjoy some local delicacies.

  2. Day 2: Banasura Sagar Dam and Meenmutty Waterfalls
    1 hour (30 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, head to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India. Enjoy a boat ride or trek in the nearby hills. For lunch, head to the nearby Vythiri Resort for some delicious Kerala cuisine. After lunch, visit the Meenmutty Waterfalls, a three-tiered waterfall amidst rolling hills and lush forests. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta for some souvenir shopping.

  3. Day 3: Thirunelli Temple and Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary
    1 hour 30 minutes (50 km) from Kalpetta

    In the morning, visit the Thirunelli Temple, an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Take a dip in the nearby Papanasini river, believed to wash away all sins. For lunch, head to the nearby KTDC restaurant for some delicious Kerala food. In the afternoon, head to the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary, a haven for birdwatchers with over 200 species of birds. Trek through the sanctuary and keep an eye out for rare birds like the Malabar Grey Hornbill. In the evening, head back to Kalpetta and enjoy a relaxing Ayurvedic massage.
