Discovering Wayanad in 2 days

  1. Day 1: Edakkal Caves
    40 minutes (13.5 miles) from Sultan Bathery

    In the morning, visit the historic Edakkal Caves, famous for its ancient petroglyphs that date back to 6000 BCE. The caves are located on the top of Ambukuthi Hill, and you can reach there via a picturesque 1 km trek. The caves are open from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm and offer a glimpse into the rich history of Wayanad. After lunch, drive to Lakkidi View Point, which is located approximately 1.5 hours away, and offers a panoramic view of the surrounding hills and valleys. In the evening, visit the Pookode Lake, located just 20 minutes away, where you can take a leisurely boat ride or simply enjoy a stroll along the peaceful lake.

  2. Day 2: Kuruvadweep and Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 40 minutes (41.8 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start early and drive to Kuruvadweep, an uninhabited island located in the middle of Kabini river famous for its diverse flora and fauna and natural beauty. Enjoy a guided trek through the island's lush forests, and relax by the riverbeds. Note that the island is closed during monsoons, so do check before visiting. After lunch, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India and offers an amazing view of the surrounding hills. You can also enjoy a speedboat ride on the dam's tranquil waters. In the evening, visit the Wayanad Heritage Museum, which is located just 30 minutes away, and showcases the region's diverse tribal culture and history.

If you have some extra time, do consider visiting the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to elephants, tigers, leopards, and other endangered species. You can also take a day trip to the nearby hill stations of Ooty and Coorg, both of which offer stunning views, beautiful landscapes, and a unique cultural experience.
