Adventure-packed 4-Day Itinerary for Kedarnath in August 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    Located in Kedarnath, 2 hours (8.6 km) from Kedarnath Temple

    Vasuki Tal is a high altitude lake located at an altitude of 4,150 meters above sea level. The trek to Vasuki Tal starts from Kedarnath and takes around 5-6 hours. The trail passes through the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, which is home to various species of flora and fauna. The lake is surrounded by the magnificent Chaukhamba peaks and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains. Spend your day here trekking, camping, or just relaxing by the lake. You can also indulge in some fishing if you like. Spend the night camping near the lake.

  3. Day 3: Gandhi Sarovar
    Located in Kedarnath, 2.5 hours (7 km) from Vasuki Tal

    Gandhi Sarovar is a picturesque lake located at an altitude of 3,900 meters above sea level. The trek to Gandhi Sarovar starts from Kedarnath and takes around 4-5 hours. The trail passes through the beautiful Chorabari Tal and offers a stunning view of the Mandakini valley. Spend your day exploring the lake and its surroundings. You can also trek up to the nearby Vasuki Tal glacier, which is a sight to behold. Spend the night camping near Gandhi Sarovar.

  4. Day 4: Chorabari Tal
    Located in Kedarnath, 1.5 hours (3.7 km) from Gandhi Sarovar

    Chorabari Tal, also known as Deoria Tal, is a beautiful lake located at an altitude of 2,438 meters above sea level. The trek to Chorabari Tal starts from Sari village and takes around 2-3 hours. The trail passes through the beautiful forests of rhododendron and oak trees. Spend your day trekking around the lake and enjoying the scenic beauty. You can also indulge in some bird watching as the lake is home to several species of birds. In the evening, watch the sunset over the mountains before heading back to your hotel.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit the nearby Triyuginarayan temple, which is located at a distance of 25 km from Kedarnath. The temple is famous for being the place where Lord Shiva and Parvati got married. You can also take a day trip to Chopta, which is known as the "Mini Switzerland" of India. It offers stunning views of the Himalayas and is a popular destination for trekking and camping.

To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable trekking shoes, warm clothing, a raincoat, a camera, and a water bottle. Don't forget to carry some snacks and energy bars as well.
