2-Day Itinerary for Amritsar in July 2023

  1. Day 1: The Golden Temple
6 minutes (0.9 miles) from Amritsar Junction Railway Station

In the morning, visit the holiest Gurdwara of the Sikh religion, The Golden Temple. Marvel at the stunning gold-plated sanctum, surrounded by a serene pool of water. Take a peaceful stroll around the complex and witness the devotion of the Sikh community. For lunch, indulge in the delicious langar, a free community meal served to all visitors regardless of religion, caste or creed. In the evening, enjoy the live kirtan performance by the temple musicians, while taking in the glittering beauty of the temple.

  2. Day 2: Wagah Border
45 minutes (17.8 miles) from The Golden Temple

Wake up early and head towards the Wagah Border to witness the grand flag ceremony that takes place daily. This ceremony is a unique experience as you watch the border guards from both India and Pakistan put on a show of strength and patriotism. The ceremony includes a display of synchronized marching, hoisting of the national flags, and a lot of cheering and flag-waving from the crowds on both sides. After the ceremony, head towards Jallianwala Bagh, a historic garden site that commemorates the massacre of peaceful protestors by British forces in 1919. Pay your respects to the martyrs and learn about the Indian freedom struggle. End your day by visiting the colorful local markets and indulging in some authentic Amritsari street food.

Recommendations

Don't miss the chance to visit the serene Durgiana Temple, a Hindu temple that is often called the Silver Temple due to its impressive silver doors.
