4-Day Adventure Itinerary in Wayanad, August 2023

  1. Day 1: Trek to Chembra Peak
    30 minutes (12 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with a trek to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek will take approximately 3-4 hours and it's not an easy one, so make sure to wear comfortable clothing and shoes. The trail is surrounded by lush greenery and offers breathtaking views of the valley from the top. After the trek, head to Soochipara Waterfalls for a refreshing swim and some relaxation. In the evening, visit the Edakkal Caves, which are known for their prehistoric rock etchings.

  2. Day 2: Wildlife Safari & Bamboo Rafting
    40 minutes (19 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with a wildlife safari in the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can spot elephants, tigers, deer and other animals in their natural habitat. After the safari, head to Kuruva Island for some bamboo rafting. The serene surroundings, gushing river and chirping birds make for a perfect adventure activity. In the evening, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, which is the largest earthen dam in India.

  3. Day 3: Zip-lining & Rock Climbing
    1 hour (25 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day with some adrenaline-pumping activities at the Wayanad Adventure Camp. Go zip-lining across the forest canopy and try your hand at rock climbing. After the activities, head to Pookode Lake for some boating and sightseeing. In the evening, visit the Jain Temple at Sulthan Bathery, which is an ancient temple known for its intricate architecture.

  4. Day 4: Sunrise Hike & Tea Plantation Visit
    50 minutes (20 miles) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with a sunrise hike to the Neelimala View Point. The 3-km trail is steep and challenging but the views from the top are worth the effort. After the hike, head to the Meenmutty Waterfalls for a refreshing swim. In the afternoon, visit the Thirunelli Temple, which is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. End your day with a visit to the tea plantations in Wayanad and learn about the tea-making process.

Recommendations

If you have more time, consider visiting the Chethalayam Waterfalls and the Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary. You can also take a day trip to the nearby town of Sulthan Bathery and visit the ancient Jain Temple or the historical Edakkal Caves.
