Two-Day Nature Itinerary for Wayanad in June 2023

  1. Day 1: Sunrise at Chembra Peak
1 hour (18 miles) from Wayanad

Chembra Peak is the tallest peak in Wayanad, offering a breathtaking view of the sunrise over the hills. Start your day early and embark on a 4 km trek to the top of the peak. The trek takes about 3 hours to complete and requires a bit of fitness. After enjoying the sunrise, trek back down and have a refreshing breakfast at the base. In the afternoon, visit the Pookode Lake, surrounded by lush greenery and home to freshwater fishes. You can go boating, or simply relax by the lake. In the evening, visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, one of the largest earthen dams in the world, and enjoy the stunning sunset view over the reservoir.

  2. Day 2: Edakkal Caves and Soochipara Falls
1 hour 20 minutes (29 miles) from Wayanad

Start your day by visiting the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with cave drawings and etchings dating back to 6000 BCE. The climb to the caves is steep but worth the effort for the stunning views. In the afternoon, head to the Soochipara Falls, a three-tiered waterfall nestled in the Western Ghats. The falls offer a great opportunity to swim in the natural pool or just relax by the water. In the evening, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary and take a jungle safari to spot elephants, tigers, and other exotic wildlife.
