1 hour 30 minutes (29.6 miles) from Calicut International Airport

Begin your adventure by hiking up to the Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek takes about 3 hours and is not for the faint-hearted, but the stunning view of the heart-shaped lake at the top makes it all worth it. Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy it with the breathtaking scenery in the backdrop. After lunch, head to the Pookode Lake, a freshwater lake surrounded by lush greenery. Take a pedal boat ride and spot some of the resident wildlife such as blue lotus and freshwater fishes. End the day with a visit to the Banasura Sagar Dam, the second-largest earth dam in Asia. Take a speed boat ride and marvel at the stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

  2. Day 2: Thirunelli Temple
1 hour 30 minutes (35.2 miles) from Chembra Peak

Begin your day with a visit to the ancient Thirunelli Temple, dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu. This temple is believed to have been built by Lord Brahma himself and is surrounded by beautiful hills and forests. Take a dip in the Papanasini river which is believed to wash away all sins. After lunch, head to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient rock art. The hike to the caves is steep but the view from the top is worth it. End your day with a visit to the Soochipara Waterfalls and take a dip in the natural pool at the base of the falls.

After lunch, head to the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, home to a variety of animals such as elephants, tigers, leopards, and deer. Take a jeep safari and spot some of the resident wildlife in their natural habitat. End your day with a visit to the Lakkidi Viewpoint and enjoy the stunning panoramic view of the surrounding valleys and hills.
