3-Day Adventure Itinerary for Wayanad in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Chembra Peak
    18 minutes (9.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Start your day early with a trek to the highest peak in Wayanad, Chembra. It takes around 3-4 hours to reach the peak, but the mesmerizing view of the heart-shaped lake from the top is worth the effort. Carry enough water and food for the trek. Afternoon, visit the nearby Soochipara Waterfalls. The waterfall has a natural pool where you can take a dip and relax. In the evening, head to the Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric rock shelter known for its ancient carvings and paintings.

  2. Day 2: Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary
    1 hour 10 minutes (38.9 km) from Kalpetta

    Embark on an early morning safari at Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, which offers a chance to spot elephants, tigers, and other rare species of flora and fauna. The safari takes around 2-3 hours. Afternoon, visit the Kuruva Island, which is an uninhabited island filled with dense forests, rivers, and streams. Spend some time exploring the island and taking a dip in the river. In the evening, experience a treehouse stay at Vythiri Resort amidst the forest.

  3. Day 3: Banasura Sagar Dam
    1 hour 23 minutes (49.6 km) from Kalpetta

    Visit Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earth dam in India and the second-largest in Asia. The dam offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and the Banasura lake. You can also opt for a speedboat ride or kayaking in the lake. Afternoon, visit the nearby Meenmutty Waterfalls, which is a three-tiered waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. The hike to the waterfall takes around 45 minutes. In the evening, visit the Thirunelli Temple, a beautiful temple nestled amidst the Brahmagiri hills.
