Start your day early and head to Chembra Peak, the highest peak in Wayanad. The trek to the top is around 3 hours, but the stunning views of the surrounding hills and heart-shaped lake are worth it. Bring snacks and plenty of water for the trek. After the trek, grab lunch at the nearby tea estate or local restaurant. In the afternoon, head to Pookode Lake, a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests and hills. Take a paddleboat ride or a walk around the lake. In the evening, visit the Soochipara Waterfalls, located in a lush green forest. The 3-tiered waterfalls are a sight to behold.
Start your day early and head to Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary, one of the best places to spot elephants in their natural habitat. Join a guided jeep safari or trekking tour to explore the sanctuary. After the safari, head to Edakkal Caves, a prehistoric site with ancient cave paintings. The hike to the caves is around 45 minutes, but the stunning views along the way make it worth it. In the evening, enjoy a peaceful walk in the Meenmutty Waterfalls. The waterfall drops from a height of 300m, making it one of the most impressive waterfalls in Kerala.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Kuruva Island, a beautiful river island with dense forest and unique flora and fauna. You can also visit the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India, located amidst the Banasura hills. For a day trip, visit Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary, where you can spot a wide variety of wildlife including tigers, leopards, and deer. To maximize your fun, try local delicacies such as bamboo rice, Wayanad biryani, and pazham pori (banana fritters).
