4-day Itinerary for Kedarnath in July 2023

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple

    5 minutes (0.5 miles) from GMVN Kedarnath Tourist Rest House

    In the morning, visit the famous Kedarnath Temple, which is one of the four sacred shrines of Hinduism. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located near the Mandakini River. Afternoon can be spent exploring the surrounding natural beauty of Kedarnath. In the evening, attend the evening aarti at the temple, which is a beautiful and spiritual experience.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal
    Located in Kedarnath
    2 hours (4.3 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    In the morning, embark on a trek to Vasuki Tal, a beautiful high altitude lake. It's a 6 km trek from Kedarnath with amazing views of the Himalayan range. Afternoon can be spent relaxing by the lake and taking in the stunning natural beauty. In the evening, trek back to Kedarnath and enjoy a hot meal at a local restaurant.

  3. Day 3: Gaurikund and Gandhi Sarovar
    Located in Kedarnath
    1 hour 15 minutes (19.4 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    Start your day by visiting Gaurikund, a popular Hindu pilgrimage site, and take a dip in the hot water spring. Afterwards, head to Gandhi Sarovar, a pristine lake named after Mahatma Gandhi, which is located 3 km upstream from Kedarnath. In the evening, return to Kedarnath for a relaxing evening.

  4. Day 4: Surya Kund
    Located in Kedarnath
    30 minutes (1.5 miles) from Kedarnath Temple

    Spend your last day in Kedarnath by visiting Surya Kund, a natural hot water spring located near the temple. Take a dip in the rejuvenating water and relax in the beautiful surroundings. Afterwards, visit the Adi Shankaracharya Samadhi, which is located nearby. In the evening, spend some time shopping for local handicrafts and souvenirs before departing Kedarnath.

Recommendations

If you have an extra day, you can visit the nearby town of Guptkashi, which is known for its ancient Vishwanath Temple. You can also take a day trip to the beautiful Gandhi Sarovar lake. To maximize your fun, make sure to carry comfortable walking shoes, warm clothes, enough sunscreen, and a first aid kit.
