The Mughal Gardens, built in the 17th century, are a group of three stunning gardens, namely the Shalimar Bagh, Chashme Shahi, and Nishat Bagh. The gardens boast of fountains, waterfalls, flower beds, and trees that offer visitors a scenic natural view. The gardens' architectural elements are complemented by an expansive view of the surrounding mountainous terrain.
Gulmarg, which means "Meadow of Flowers," is a picturesque destination located in the Pir Panjal Range of the Himalayas. Visitors can immerse themselves in nature by taking a ride on the Gulmarg Gondola, the world's second-highest cable car, to reach the top of Apharwat Peak, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Trekking, skiing, and snowboarding also attract visitors to Gulmarg.
Sonamarg, also known as the "Golden Meadow," lives up to its name by offering visitors an exquisite view of the Thajiwas Glacier, lush green meadows, and sparkling streams. Visitors can opt for a horse ride, trekking, or rafting on the Sindh River. A picnic around the peaceful meadows and refreshing breeze of the valley creates a charming, rustic atmosphere where one can unwind and relax.
If you have an extra day, plan an excursion to Pahalgam, located 2 hours (92.8 km) from Srinagar, to witness breathtaking views of the Lidder River and high-altitude landscapes. If you have limited time, consider skipping Gulmarg. However, if you have less than three days, stick to exploring Mughal Gardens and nearby areas as it gives you a taste of beauty the region has to offer with less travelling.
