Start your day at the National Mall to see some of the most iconic landmarks of D.C. The Mall is a sprawling park with many memorials, monuments and museums around, all of which you can admire for free. Spend your time discovering the history and culture of America at Smithsonian Institution which has 19 museums and galleries, each featuring a different theme. For a more personal touch on history, visit the National Museum of American History and see items such as the original 'Star-Spangled Banner' and the First Ladies' inaugural dresses.
Take a trip to the charming and historic town of Georgetown and walk along the picturesque cobblestone streets. Grab lunch at the iconic Old Ebbitt Grill and enjoy some of their delicious oysters. After lunch, walk along Massachusetts Avenue to see the beautiful and grand Embassies, home to many foreign embassies in D.C. End your day with a leisurely stroll along the Potomac River and head back to Georgetown for a nightcap.
Start your day with a morning visit to the iconic White House. While you can't enter the President's home, you can get a good view from outside and learn about its history and significance. After that, take a metro ride to the Arlington National Cemetery where you can pay your respects to American military members, including John F. Kennedy's gravesite. Spend some time walking the grounds, especially the Eternal Flame and Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
If you have more time in D.C., take a day trip out to see the gorgeous Cherry Blossoms blooming around the Tidal Basin in Spring. Or, head on over to Adams Morgan neighborhood to enjoy the vibrancy of D.C.'s nightlife. For those who have less time, you can condense Day 1 and 2 into one day of touring. You may also opt to ride the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus tours to give you a general introduction of the city's historic landmarks.
