Start your day by visiting the highest peak of the Nilgiri Hills, Doddabetta Peak, which offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire valley. Located at a height of 2,623 metres above sea level, it is the perfect place for nature lovers and photographers. Besides the stunning views, the Doddabetta Peak is also the home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. There are telescopes installed at the top, which you can use to spot the surrounding landscapes and valleys. The peak is open from 7 AM to 6 PM, and the best time to visit is between October and June.
After exploring the Doddabetta Peak, spend some time at the beautiful Ooty Botanical Gardens, located in the heart of the city. Spread over 22 acres, the garden houses over 650 species of plants and trees, including some rare and exotic species. The highlight of the garden is the fossilised tree, believed to be over 20 million years old. The garden also has a vibrant collection of flowers and plants that are in full bloom during the spring season. The botanical gardens are open from 7.30 AM to 6.30 PM and are closed on Tuesdays.
On the second day, visit Avalanche Lake, an offbeat destination tucked away in the midst of the Western Ghats. The lake is surrounded by lush green forests and is located at an altitude of 2,580 metres above sea level. The serene surroundings and crystal clear water make it a perfect place for trout fishing. You can also enjoy boating and other adventure activities here. The lake is open from 8 AM to 6 PM, and the entry fee is Rs. 20 per person.
After spending some peaceful time at Avalanche Lake, head to Emerald Lake, located in the Upper Bhavani region. Surrounded by rolling hills and tea plantations, the emerald-green waters of the lake are a sight to behold. The lake is a popular spot for picnics and offers various activities, including trekking and fishing. Do not forget to carry your camera along to capture some amazing moments. The lake is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, and the entry fee is Rs. 10 per person.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to Pykara Falls, Deer Park, or the Tea Museum to your itinerary. For those interested in adventure, a trek to the Nilgiri Mountains or a mountain biking expedition could also be arranged. And if you have less time, you can consider skipping either the Doddabetta Peak or Ooty Botanical Gardens, depending on your personal preferences. Remember to carry suitable warm clothing, especially during the winter season, as the weather can get quite chilly in Ooty.
