Start your day with a visit to the iconic Mattupetty Dam. The dam is nestled between lush green hills and is a popular spot for picnics. You can take a boat ride and enjoy the serene surroundings. The dam is surrounded by tea plantations, and you can take a short hike to get a great view of the plains below. You can also visit the Indo Swiss Dairy Farm nearby, where you can see different varieties of cows, including Brown Swiss and Jersey cows.
Next, head to the Echo Point, which is just a short drive from Mattupetty Dam. As the name suggests, it is a place where you can hear your voice echo. The view from here is breathtaking, with mist-covered hills and the serene Kundala Lake below. You can take a walk around the lake or take a boat ride if you have time.
After lunch, visit the Tea Museum to learn about the history of tea production in Munnar. The museum has interesting exhibits, including old tea-making machines, photographs, and other memorabilia. You can see the tea-making process and taste different types of tea. The museum also has a tea shop, where you can buy tea to take home.
On day two, start early and head to Top Station. It is the highest point in Munnar, and you can get a panoramic view of the Western Ghats. The view is especially stunning during sunrise and sunset. It is a great spot for photography. On the way to Top Station, you will pass through the Eravikulam National Park, where you can see the endangered Nilgiri Tahr.
Next, visit the Kundala Lake, which is surrounded by hills and offers a panoramic view of the waterfalls surrounding it. You can take a boat ride or go on a horseback ride around the lake. The place is a great picnic spot and a good place for relaxation after a long day of travel.
If you have more time, you can visit other places like the Eravikulam National Park, the Attukal Waterfalls, or Chokramudi Peak. If you have less time, you can skip some places and adjust the itinerary according to your preferences. Do carry warm clothing and raincoats, as the weather can be unpredictable in Munnar. If you are an early riser, do consider waking up early to witness the sunrise at Top Station.
