Doddabetta Peak is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Mountains and offers magnificent views of the surrounding landscape. Trekking enthusiasts can enjoy a hike to the top, while others can take the road. The drive up the mountain is scenic with several pit stops along the way. The Government Telescope House at the top allows you to view far-off areas during clear weather. The entrance fee of INR 10 is nominal, and the souvenir store is worth a visit. The peak tends to get crowded by midday, so it's recommended to visit early in the morning.
The Ooty Lake is a 2.5 km-long artificial lake that was built in 1824 by John Sullivan. The lake offers boating, fishing, and horse riding activities, providing the perfect way to indulge in relaxationin the lap of nature. A beautiful garden adjacent to the lake offers flower exhibitions, boat races, and joy rides. It's a perfect picnic spot, and the lake is surrounded by groves of Eucalyptus trees and lush greens that create a soothing atmosphere.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to the Government Botanical Garden that is a 15-minute drive (3.4 km) from the lake itself. The garden houses several species of plants, flowers, and trees. For those interested, a visit to tea gardens and a factory is also a must-do. For those with less time, omit Doddabetta Peak and spend a few extra hours by the lake. Remember to keep the weather in mind while planning your visit, as the winter months of December to February can get quite chilly.
