The Government Botanical Garden is a sprawling 55-acre garden featuring both indigenous and exotic plants. Highlights of the garden include a fossilised tree trunk from the 20-million-year-old petrified forest, and a paperbark tree that is over 100 years old. Visitors can also buy potted plants and seeds from the on-site nursery.
If you have more time, you can include a visit to the Tea Museum, which showcases the history of tea production in the region. If you have less time, you can skip the Government Botanical Garden and spend more time at Doddabetta Peak or Ooty Lake. Don't forget to carry warm clothing as the weather in Ooty can get chilly, even in the summer months.
