Kudlu Falls is a hidden gem located in the heart of the Western Ghats mountain range. The falls cascading down from a height of 300 meters is a sight to behold. The dense greenery of the surrounding forest adds to the serene atmosphere. You can swim in the natural pools beneath the falls and enjoy the free nature spa. To reach the falls, you need to trek through the dense forest for a mile, which is an adventurous experience in itself.
One of the cleanest beaches in Karnataka, Malpe Beach is a must-visit spot in Udupi. The beach is known for its soft golden sand and clear blue water. Take a stroll along the shore and watch the fishermen bring in their daily catch. You can also take a boat ride to St. Mary’s Island, a small uninhabited island known for its unique hexagonal-shaped columns of basaltic lava. The island is accessible only by boat from the Malpe Beach.
Kaup Beach is another beautiful beach in Udupi with a 100 ft high lighthouse. Climb up the lighthouse and enjoy the panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and the surrounding areas. You can also visit the nearby ancient 14th-century Jain Basadi, located on top of a rock. The spectacular view from the top is breathtaking.
Kodi Bengre Estuary is a nature lover’s paradise. Paddle your way through the tranquil waters of the estuary and experience the rich biodiversity of the region. You can spot many bird species, crabs, fish, and even dolphins if you are lucky. The sunset kayaking tour is a highly recommended experience.
If you have an extra day, you can add a visit to the Kudremukh National Park, which is a 3-hour drive from Udupi. The national park is known for its diverse flora and fauna, waterfalls, and trekking trails. If you have less time, you can skip the kayaking tour and spend more time at the beaches. It's always good to carry sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat, especially during summer months. Udupi is a vegetarian food hub, so don't miss out on the delicious South Indian food, especially the local Udupi cuisine.
