4-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Ooty

  1. Day 1: Botanical Garden

    Explore the vast and well-maintained gardens showcasing over 20,000 plants, trees, and flowers collected from different parts of the world. A 20-million-year-old fossilized tree is also a part of the garden. There's a mini train ride for kids. A colorful flower show is held annually in May.

  2. Day 2: Tea Museum and Factory
    9 minutes (4.6 km) from Doddabetta Peak

    A fascinating museum describing the history of tea in India and the process of tea cultivation and production. A guide will accompany you through the factory. You get to taste tea made from different tea leaves, made in different ways and buy some too.

  3. Day 3: Thread Garden
    15 minutes (6.2 km) from Ooty Rose Garden

    A unique garden where everything is made out of thread! The flowers, plants, and even animals are hand-made using 50 different types of colorful thread. The artwork is realistic and photogenic.

  4. Day 4: Pykara Falls
    20 minutes (10 km) from Pykara Lake

    Immerse yourself in nature by visiting these serene falls. The sound of the water cascading down the rocky cliffside is music to the ears. There's a local snack vendor aside the falls. An ideal place for a family picnic where the kids can get to spot wildlife, trek or take a boat ride in the Pykara Lake.

If you have an extra day or two, visit Ooty Rose Garden and Government Museum. You could also consider taking a ride in the Botanical Garden toy train. In case you have less time, Ooty Lake and Doddabetta Peak could be covered on the same day, and Pykara Falls and Pykara Lake on the other. Avoid traveling during monsoon as some places are likely to be shut.
