Milan is famous for its beautiful historic landmarks, and there’s no better place to start exploring than the iconic Duomo di Milano. This impressive Gothic cathedral took almost six centuries to complete, and it's well worth taking the time to tour all its nooks and crannies. After absorbing the awe-inspiring expanse of this grand cathedral, take a stroll to the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Completed in 1877, it was one of the world's first shopping malls, and its architecture continues to draw visitors from across the globe. From there head to the Castello Sforzesco, a castle built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. Take a walk through the castle’s many museums and galleries and admire Michelangelo’s last sculpture, “Rondanini Pietà”, on the second floor.
In between locations, there are many local cafes and restaurants to stop and grab a bite to eat.
Today explore Milan's vibrant art scene. Begin at the Pinacoteca di Brera, a world-famous art gallery that houses an impressive collection of Italian Renaissance art, including works by Raphael and Caravaggio. Next, head to the Navigli District, which is famous for its canals and trendy art galleries.
For lunch, stop at a local café or restaurant in the area before heading to the district of Quadrilatero della Moda, which is considered the heart of the fashion scene in Milan. Here you can find a wealth of high-end fashion stores, from well-known luxury brands to small local boutiques.
If you have more time, consider taking a day trip to Lake Como, which is only a short train ride away from Milan. Another excellent option is to take a walk around Sempione Park and visit the Arco della Pace. If you have less time, choose which landmarks interest you the most or have flexibility in choosing among other lesser-known places in Milan. Be sure to check the opening and closing times of the places you plan to visit to avoid disappointment. Consider purchasing tickets in advance to avoid long lines and save time.
