Pookode Lake is a natural freshwater lake surrounded by forests. You can take a scenic boat ride through the lake or even go for a refreshing swim. The area is abundant in flora and fauna, making it an ideal spot for birdwatchers and nature photographers. A short nature walk through the forest is also available.
Edakkal Caves are a natural wonder, located at an altitude of 1,200 meters. These caves are known for their prehistoric inscriptions, and getting to the top of the caves provides a scenic trek through Wayanad's dense forests. Photographers, hikers, and history lovers will appreciate this place.
Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India with breathtaking views of the surrounding hills. The dam is among the top places to see in Waynad, and the surrounding area offers plenty of activities, including speed boating and nature walks. There is also a small island located nearby, which makes for an excellent spot for a picnic with loved ones.
If you have extra time, visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, which is a biodiversity hotspot or Soochipara Falls. If you're looking to stay closer to Kalpetta, take a walk through the Uravu Bamboo Village, known for its bamboo crafts, or explore the ancient Jain temple of Sulthan Bathery. If you have fewer than three days, skip Banasura Sagar Dam and take more time for the other places or spend an extra day in the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary.
