The Edakkal Caves are a fascinating place to start your day, with ancient inscriptions dating back to 6000 BC. The caves are situated on top of Ambukuthi Mala hill and require a 1km uphill walk from the base. The view from the top is worth the exertion.
This freshwater lake is surrounded by lush greenery and home to a variety of aquatic life, it is a serene destination perfect for boating . You can take a paddleboat or a rowboat and maybe even spot some fish. Don’t miss the freshwater aquarium and handicraft stalls around the lake.
Dine at Clayhut restaurant, it serves an authentic Kerala cuisine. It has a great ambiance that blends with the Wayanad culture. Some popular dishes are Chicken Biriyani and Kappa. Also, wrap up with their mouth-watering desserts. The food is reasonably priced and is a great value.
Hear the sound of waterfalls rise as you walk along a lush and lovely jungle. admire the green forests and see the 'Sentinel Rocks' rising to more than 200 meters on either side of the falls. With its natural rock pool at the base of the falls, it is a picturesque spot for taking a swim or taking some pictures.
As the day winds to a close, visit the wildlife sanctuary, which is home to significant populations of playful monkeys, deer, elephants, and other mammals. It is best to take a jeep ride with a guide who can point out the sanctuary's variety of flora and fauna.
If you wake up early, you could get ahead of the crowds and visit the fauna-rich Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary early on before proceeding to Edakkal Caves. However, if one is squeezed for time, it’s better to have a quick meal from one of the high street cafes like Cafe Robusta and head straight to Pookode Lake.
