Start your Ooty trip with a visit to the Ooty Lake. This serene lake offers beautiful scenic views, boating activities, and a children's park where the whole family can enjoy. You can also indulge in some street-side shopping and street food near the lake.
The Government Botanical Garden is spread across 55 acres of land and showcases more than 500 species of plants and trees. You can also see a fossil tree trunk that is believed to be 20 million years old. The garden is perfect for nature lovers and for some family photo sessions with scenic backdrops as well.
The Doddabetta Peak is the highest peak in the Nilgiri range and offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and forests. You can also visit the Doddabetta Tea Factory and learn about the tea-making process. Be aware, this is a moderately steep hike that could fatigue younger children.
End your tour with a visit to the scenic Avalanche Lake. This beautiful lake surrounded by tall pine trees and dense forests is ideal for picnics and for trekking enthusiast families. You could hike the 4-5 km trail from Emerald Dam to Avalanche Lake while soaking up the natural beauty of the area.
It is best to visit Ooty during the peak season from March to June, and also remember that wildlife sighting in the region is rare. Apart from the attractions mentioned, some other places that you could add are the Pykara Lake and Waterfalls, the Rose Garden, and St.Stephen's Church. In case you have less time than the planned itinerary, you may consider skipping Doddabetta Peak and Avalanche Lake.
