The Government Botanical Garden is located at the foothills of Doddabetta Peak. The 22 hectares of gardens have a variety of plant species including fossilised trees, orchids, ferns, and hybiscus. Visitors can also enjoy a 20-million-year-old fossilised tree trunk and a 20 million-year-old leaf fossil. The garden also has a Toda tribe exhibition and a fountain.
At an altitude of 2,623 meters, Doddabetta Peak is the highest point in the Nilgiris. The panoramic views of the surrounding hills and valleys are breathtaking. Visitors can climb to the top of the peak where there is a telescope house, where people can see far-off places. There is also a small park at the base of the peak.
Located in the Pykara Village, the Pykara Waterfall is an enchanting waterfall that flows down a rocky bed. Visitors can enjoy the walk from the parking area through the teak trees down to the waterfall. There is also a boathouse near the falls where people can rent boats for a ride on the Pykara Lake.
The Mudumalai National Park is a wildlife sanctuary that is home to endangered wildlife species such as tigers, elephants, and leopards. The park also has various species of birds and reptiles such as the King Cobra. Visitors can take a safari through the park and enjoy the flora and fauna.
If you have extra time, you can visit the Ooty Lake or the Tea Museum. If you have less time, you can skip the Pykara Waterfall or Mudumalai National Park.
