The Ooty Botanical Gardens is spread over an area of 55 acres and is a delight for nature lovers. The gardens boast of a wide variety of plants, flowers, and trees and there is a fossil tree trunk that dates back 20 million years. Spend a few hours taking a leisurely walk and exploring the different sections of the garden, including the Italian garden, water lily pool, and fern house.
Ooty Lake is an artificial lake formed in 1824 by damming the mountain streams flowing down the Ooty valley. Spend some time boating and enjoying the scenic surroundings. You can also go for a horse ride or enjoy a light snack from the food vendors around the lake.
Doddabetta Peak is the highest peak in the Nilgiris, standing tall at 8,650 feet. From the peak, you can enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and hills. There is a telescope house at the top which lets you view distant areas. Spend a couple of hours taking in the scenery and enjoying some snacks at the top.
The Pykara Waterfalls are a series of waterfalls located on the Pykara River. The falls are surrounded by lush green forests, and the water cascades down in multiple levels. Spend some time hiking around the falls and enjoying the scenery. You can also visit the Pykara Dam which is nearby.
The Rose Garden is situated in the heart of Ooty and is the largest rose garden in India. The garden is spread over 10 acres and boasts of more than 20,000 varieties of roses. Spend some time walking around and taking in the beautiful colours and fragrances. You can also buy some rose-based products from the shops present in the garden.
If you have more time, you can add a visit to the Government Botanical Garden or the Avalanche Lake. If you have less time, you can skip the Pykara Waterfalls and add a visit to the Tea Museum or the Wax World Museum. Make sure to carry comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and a hat as you will be spending a lot of time outdoors.
