Start your Ooty trip by taking a serene boat ride at the Ooty Lake, which is located in the heart of the city. Surrounded by eucalyptus trees, this artificial lake is a perfect place to relax and capture some beautiful pictures. There are also various local vendors’ shops if you want to enjoy some delicious street food.
Explore the Botanical Garden which is spread over 55 acres of land and home to over 650 species of flowers and trees. You can stroll among the lush greenery and witness the Toda tribe's huts, which gives insight into the life of the native tribes in the Nilgiris. Additionally, the garden also has a fossilized tree trunk, which is said to be 20 million years old.
Hike to the top of the Doddabetta Peak to experience one of the picturesque views of the Nilgiris. It is the highest peak in the region and offers a bird’s eye view of the surrounding landscape. There is a telescope house at the top, which offers a more close-up view of the surrounding valleys, plains, and water bodies. On a clear day, you can also see Mysore's Chamundi Hills from the top.
If you have additional time, visit the Government Rose Garden, which is located just 5 minutes away from the Ooty Lake. Additionally, if you want to experience some adventure, you can go trekking in the nearby Mukurthi National Park. If you have less time, you can skip Botanical Garden and spend more time at the Doddabetta Peak. Avoid traveling on weekends as the place tends to be crowded with tourists. Also, wear cozy clothes and comfortable shoes to enjoy the trip to the fullest.
