The Kappil Lake estuary provides a seamless view of the vast expanse of the Arabian sea while also being a tranquil spot.
The picturesque Ponnumthuruthu Island is located amid the beautiful backwaters and is surrounded by plush greenery, coconut trees. The island also a 100 year old Shiva Parvathi temple. This small island is a great place to relax and explore Kerala's culture and history. However, it's accessibility is limited to the amount of boats available to reach it.
For those with more time, taking a day trip to Thenmala and visiting the splendid waterfalls, and Shenduruney Wildlife Sanctuary is worth it. If travellers have less time, instead of Ponnumthuruthu Island, they can enjoy Paravur Backwaters which is closer to Varkala.
