Start your day by immersing yourself in the breathtaking scenery of Varkala Beach and Cliff. Located about 10 minutes' drive from your resort, the cliff offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea, rock formations, and a long sandy beach bordered by coconut palm trees. You can spend some time sunbathing, swimming or surfing on the beach. Walking on the cliff is a must-try activity as you'll find several small shops selling local handcrafts, street food vendors, and restaurants along the way. As the sun goes down, head to the Janardhana Swamy Temple built-in 2000 years ago, and then enjoy the sunset at the Black Beach.
On your second day, visit Varkala Waterfall, which is located around 45 minutes from your resort. The attraction is surrounded by greenery, a small pool and offers visitors a serene and peaceful ambiance. After spending a few hours there, head to Kappil Lake, which is approximately 20 minutes away. Kappil lake offers boat riding facilities where visitors can enjoy the breeze and lush vegetation around the lake. Finally, visit the Anjengo Fort, also known as Anchuthengu Fort, a 17th-century fort famous for its historical significance and architectural beauty. Explore the ancient ruins of the fort, listen to its stories while enjoying the sea breeze.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Thiruvambadi Beach, Papanasham Beach, or Chilakkoor Beach to enjoy the local seafood and watch fishermen at work. The Odayam Beach offers surfing facilities for adventure sports enthusiasts. You can explore the Golden Island which is half an hour from Varkala. If you want to add more history to your trip, you can also visit the Sivagiri Mutt, the final resting place of Sri Narayana Guru, a great social reformer. If you have less time, you can skip the Kappil Lake or Anjengo Fort and allocate that time for exploring nearby beaches.
