Make your way to the heart of Wayanad, the magnificent Chembra Peak. The trek to the summit is challenging, but the panoramic views are worth every step. These verdant hills are home to tea plantations and lush forests and the trek's highlight is the heart-shaped mountain lake halfway up the peak. Do remember to obtain the necessary permissions from the forest authorities before starting the trek.
Continue your nature escapades by visiting Soochipara Falls. The falls cascade down in three tiers, over 200 meters, and form a natural pool ideal for swimming and relaxing in the middle of a rainforest. Take a dip in the cool waters, try your hand at rock climbing, or enjoy a picnic by the waterfalls.
Explore the 950-acre Kuruva Islands, an ecological haven located along the banks of the Kabini River. The protected river delta is home to various species of flora and fauna, making it a paradise for nature lovers. Pack a lunch and enjoy the island's serenity by taking a guided rafting or bamboo-rafting tour down the Kabini River.
Conclude your journey with a visit to the awe-inspiring Banasura Sagar Dam, a massive earthen dam built across the Karamanathodu River. The dam offers panoramic vistas of the Banasura hills and a speed boat ride to experience the beauty of the water body is a must-try.
If you have more time, the Thirunelli Temple, Edakkal Caves, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, and Pookode Lake are perfect places to add to your itinerary. Alternatively, if you have less time, you can omit Soochipara falls and extend your stay at Chembra Peak or Kuruva Island.
