Start early and visit the Tiger Hill to see the magnificent sunrise illuminating the entire mountain range. After a short drive, reach the Ghoom Monastery - one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in Darjeeling with a beautiful statue of "Maitreya Buddha." Later, enjoy a serene walk to the Batasia Loop train station- a unique spiral railway line amidst nature with war memorial. Head to the charming narrow lanes of Mall Road, and discover the British-era architecture, quaint cafes, and souvenir shops. Grab some local momos and thukpas before retiring to your hotel.
Begin your day at Darjeeling Tea Gardens, known for producing a distinct variety of tea. Take a guided tour to learn about the art of plucking, processing, and packaging tea. Next, go for a scenic 7 km trek to the Tiger Hill viewpoint through pine forests and rhododendron trees. Be rewarded with the stunning views of the Himalayas; including Mount Everest on a clear day. End your day at the Observatory Hill, which is of great religious significance as it has sacred Hindu and Buddhist temples. Witness a breathtaking view of the sunset and the entire city from the viewpoint, then have dinner at a nearby restaurant.
If you have more time, visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park, which houses rare and endangered Himalayan wildlife and birds. The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute is also worth checking out. If you have less time, skip the Tea Gardens and opt for a shorter trek or drive to the Dali Monastery.
