Start your day with a visit to Periyar National Park, a beautiful wildlife reserve that is home to many animals including tigers, elephants, and wild boar. Take a guided walking tour or a boat ride on the lake to see the wildlife up close. The park is open from 6 am to 6 pm every day.
After your visit to the park, head over to the Kadathanadan Kalari Centre to witness a mesmerizing martial arts performance known as Kalaripayattu. You can see acrobatic moves, sword fighting, and other traditional techniques that have been passed down for generations. The performances take place at 6 pm and 7.30 pm every day and last for one hour.
On day two, explore the fragrant spices and herbs of the region at Abraham's Spice Garden. Take a guided tour to learn about the various spices and their uses in cooking and medicine. The garden also has a small spice shop where you can pick up some souvenirs to take home. The garden is open from 8 am to 6 pm every day.
End your trip with an exciting visit to Elephant Junction, where you can see elephants up close, interact with them, and ride them for a short distance. You can also watch the daily bath of the elephants, go on a jeep safari, and learn about the life of these gentle giants at the information center. The park is open from 6 am to 5.30 pm every day.
If you have more time, visit the nearby Mangala Devi Temple or the Chellarkovil Viewpoint for panoramic views of the Western Ghats. If you have less time, omit Kadathanadan Kalari Centre or Elephant Junction, depending on your preference. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and bring sunscreen and insect repellent. Respect the animals and their habitats by following park rules and staying at a safe distance.
