Three-Day Family Friendly Itinerary for Trimbakeshwar

  1. Day 1: Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple

    Begin your trip with the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. This ancient temple is located amidst lush greenery and is known for its beautiful architecture. Take a dip in the holy pond inside the temple complex which is believed to wash away all sins. Spend some time exploring the intricate carvings and sculptures, and attend the evening aarti which is a beautiful and divine experience. Note: Photography isn't allowed inside the temple premises.

  2. Day 2: Pandavleni Caves and Brahmagiri Hill
    45 minutes (18 km) from Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple

    Drive to the Pandavleni Caves, a group of ancient Hinayana Buddhist caves carved between the 3rd century BC and the 3rd century AD. Explore the rock-cut caves with stunning carvings and inscriptions, and get an insight into the rich history of Buddhism. After that, head over to the Brahmagiri Hill known for offering astounding views and for its religious significance. You can opt to trek to the peak or take a cable car ride to witness the magnificent vistas and spectacular sunset. Note: Carry water and snacks, wear comfortable shoes and breathable clothes.

  3. Day 3: Anjneri Hill and Harihar Fort
    1 hour 30 minutes (57 km) from Pandavleni Caves

    Start the day by visiting the Anjneri Hill, a popular trekking destination and a pilgrimage centre. A temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman and a picturesque waterfall can be found on the hill. The trek offers breathtaking views of the surrounding scenery. You can also opt for a jeep safari to the top of the hill. After lunch, head over to the Harihar Fort, known for its unique rock-cut staircase and historic significance. The fort offers panoramic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Note: Wear comfortable shoes, carry water and snacks, and apply sunscreen.

Useful Tips

If you have an extra day, you can visit the Sita Gufaa, located close to the Anjneri Hill. It is believed that Sita Mata spent some time here. For more adventurous activities, you can visit the Dugarwadi Waterfall or the Bhandardara Dam which are around 45 minutes drive from Trimbakeshwar. If you have less time, you can skip the Anjneri Hill trek and visit the Sula Vineyards instead, which is around 20 minutes drive from Trimbakeshwar.
