The Government Botanical Garden is spread over 55 hectares of land and showcases more than 1,000 species of plants. Highlights of the botanical garden include an Italian garden, a bonsai park, and a fern house. The garden also has a Toda tribal hut and a fossilized tree trunk estimated to be over 20 million years old.
Rising to a height of 2,623 meters, Doddabetta Peak is the highest point in the Nilgiri Range. The views from the peak are breathtaking, allowing visitors to see up to 30 km away. There is a telescope house at the top that offers a closer view of the surrounding landscape.
Sim's Park is a botanical garden that was developed in 1874. It features a variety of beautiful trees, shrubs, ferns, and flowers. Visitors can take a leisurely walk along the winding footpaths that crisscross the park, or sit on one of the benches and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Constructed in 1824 by John Sullivan, the Ooty Lake is an artificial lake covering an area of 65 acres. Visitors can enjoy a boat ride or a leisurely walk around the lake. The lake is surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees, making it an ideal picnic spot.
If you have more time, consider visiting the tea plantations and the Ooty Rose Garden. If you have less time, skip Sim's Park. To save money, consider walking or taking public transportation instead of hiring a taxi. Remember to bring warm clothes if you plan on visiting Doddabetta Peak, as temperatures can drop significantly at higher elevations.
