Kedarnath Adventure Itinerary

  1. Day 1: Kedarnath Temple
    1.5 hours drive from Rudraprayag

    Built in the 8th century, Kedarnath Temple is a popular pilgrimage destination and one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. The temple is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, including the famous Kedarnath peak.

  2. Day 2: Vasuki Tal Trek
    1.5 hours drive from Kedarnath Temple

    Located at 14,200 feet, Vasuki Tal is a glacial lake surrounded by the Chaukhamba range. The trek to the lake is moderately difficult and takes around 6-7 hours. The views of the snow-capped peaks along the way are breathtaking.

  3. Day 3: Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek
    2 hours drive from Vasuki Tal

    Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, located at an altitude of 12,073 feet. The trek to Tungnath is relatively easy and takes around 2-3 hours. From Tungnath, a 1.5 hour trek will take you to Chandrashila, which offers sweeping views of the Himalayas.

  4. Day 4: Sonprayag and Kedartal Trek
    2 hours drive from Tungnath and Chandrashila Trek

    Kedartal is a glacial lake located at an altitude of 16,116 feet. The trek to Kedartal is challenging and takes around 7-8 hours. Along the way, you'll pass through dense forests, waterfalls, and meadows. The nearby town of Sonprayag is a great place to stop for a meal and rest after the trek.

  5. Day 5: Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary
    2 hours drive from Sonprayag

    The Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including musk deer, snow leopards, and brown bears. You can take a Jeep safari through the sanctuary and spot the wildlife from a distance. The sanctuary is also great for birdwatching.

Useful Tips

If you have more time, consider visiting the nearby towns of Gaurikund and Guptkashi. For a less strenuous day, you can visit the Gandhi Sarovar and Vasuki Tal waterfalls. If you have less time, skip the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary and consider taking a shorter trek like the Chandrashila Trek.
