As per legend a tribal youth named Karinthandan was instrumental in guiding a British engineer to find the route through the difficult Waynad Ghats. Later, the British killed him fearing that he might disclose the secret of this passage to the locals. It is believed that the soul of Karinthandan still haunts this area. Locals have tied an iron chain around a banyan tree to show their respect for Karinthandan’s spirit.
Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earthen dam in India which is named after the mythological character Banasura. This dam offers a mesmerizing view of the hills and reservoir, providing you a perfect spot to unwind and relax.
If you have more time, you can also visit the Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Thirunelli Temple and the Lakkidi viewpoint, which provides a panoramic view of the valley.
