Rising 3000ft above sea level, Chamundi Hill provides a beautiful view of Mysore city and neighboring villages. Climb the 1000 steps or take a taxi to the top of the hill in the morning as it will get hot later in the day. At the top of the hill, visit the Chamundeshwari Temple, an ancient Hindu temple dedicated to the fierce goddess who slew the demon Mahishasura. Also, check out the statue of Nandi, the sacred bull of Lord Shiva.
After visiting Chamundi Hill, head to Brindavan Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in India. The gardens are famous for their musical fountain shows in the evening, where the fountains sway to music and colorful lights. During the day, you can take a boat ride in the garden's pond and visit the Krishna Raja Sagar Dam that provides water to the Mysore city.
Located at the foothills of the Western Ghats, Nagarhole National Park has a wide range of flora and fauna. It is known for its dense forest, abundant wildlife, large population of elephants, and tigers. You can go on a Jeep Safari or Elephant Safari, both of which take you deep into the park, and show you the beauty and diversity of Indian wildlife.
After an exhilarating wildlife safari, head to Karanji Lake, a beautiful bird sanctuary located in the heart of Mysore. The lake hosts a wide variety of birds, including painted storks, pelicans, and darters. Explore the park on foot, and take a boat ride in the lake to enjoy the serene beauty of the park. The park also has a butterfly park and a Regional Museum of Natural History.
If you have more time, you can visit other places in Mysore, like Mysore Palace, Jaganmohan Palace and Art Gallery, and the St. Philomena's Church. If you have less time, you can skip Nagarhole National Park and spend more time exploring Mysore city. Don't forget to try the local cuisine, including the Mysore Masala Dosai, Mysore Pak, and Mysore Churumuri, all of which are delicious.
