3-Day Itinerary for Varkala, Kerala

  1. Day 1: Explore the Beaches
    6 minutes (1.2 km) from Varkala Railway Station

    Start your day at the Varkala Beach located south of the cliff. It's perfect for swimming and sunbathing and is surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the area. Then head to the stunning Kappil Beach, a secluded stretch of sand located to the north of Varkala.     Start the day with a visit to the Janardhana Swamy Temple. The temple is an important Vaishnavaite shrine in India, and the oldest temple in Kerala, built during the 12th century. Next, head to the Sivagiri Mutt which holds the tomb of Sree Narayana Guru, one of the most well-known social reformers of India. It's a peaceful place and you can spend some time meditating.

  3. Day 3: Backwaters and Ayurveda Massage
    20 minutes (6 km) from Sivagiri Mutt

    Take an early morning ride to the Anjengo Backwaters from where you can take a guided houseboat tour through the tranquil waters of the Arabian Sea and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings. Later, go for a rejuvenating Ayurveda massage at one of the traditional spas in the area. End your day with a romantic dinner at a restaurant overlooking the sea.
