Start your day at the Varkala Beach located south of the cliff. It's perfect for swimming and sunbathing and is surrounded by some of the best cafes and restaurants in the area. Then head to the stunning Kappil Beach, a secluded stretch of sand located to the north of Varkala. Take a walk on its virgin beach, take a sunbath, or try some of the local dishes at the on-site canteen.
Start the day with a visit to the Janardhana Swamy Temple. The temple is an important Vaishnavaite shrine in India, and the oldest temple in Kerala, built during the 12th century. Next, head to the Sivagiri Mutt which holds the tomb of Sree Narayana Guru, one of the most well-known social reformers of India. It's a peaceful place and you can spend some time meditating.
Take an early morning ride to the Anjengo Backwaters from where you can take a guided houseboat tour through the tranquil waters of the Arabian Sea and enjoy the serenity of the surroundings. Later, go for a rejuvenating Ayurveda massage at one of the traditional spas in the area. End your day with a romantic dinner at a restaurant overlooking the sea.
If you have more time, you can visit the nearby Padmanabhapuram Palace or take a surfing lesson at the Varkala Beach. If you have less time, you can skip the Sivagiri Mutt and explore the bustling markets around the area.
