The Government Botanical Garden is a beautiful garden covering an area of 22 hectares consisting of various species of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, and herbal plants including bonsai, Italian garden, and fern house. You can enjoy the beautiful landscapes and themed gardens. The different sections in the garden show various species, flowers and plants of a specific region or climate. The park also has a beautiful greenhouse and a Toda tribal hut exhibiting their culture.
Doddabetta Peak is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills, standing at an elevation of 2,637 meters above sea level. The place offers a breathtaking view of Ooty and surrounding areas. There is a telescope house on top where you can get a closer look at the surroundings. You can unwind and enjoy the panoramic view.
Ooty is also known for its Tea Plantations. The Tea Museum and Factory showcases the history and evolution of tea in India. There are guided tours where you can learn and see how tea is produced and you can even taste free samples.
Ooty Lake is a breathtaking man-made lake that was built in 1824 by John Sullivan, the first collector of Ooty. It is surrounded by lush greenery and the picturesque Nilgiri Mountains. You can boat, paddleboat or take a walk around the lake.
The Government Rose Garden is the largest rose garden in India boasting beautiful trees, and flowers making it an excellent location for nature lovers. There are various species of roses, including hybrid tea roses, miniature roses, and floribundas. The Rose show, typically held in May, has a display of roses, and winners are awarded on various categories.
Pykara Waterfalls is a beautiful place to escape from the urban rush and enjoy the beauty of nature. The waterfall is one of the most popular places to visit in Ooty. It cascades in two steps and has many pools of water ideal for swimming or taking a dip. There is a boat house near the falls, where you can enjoy boat rides in the Pykara Lake.
If you have more time, you can also visit the Wax World Museum and St. Stephen's Church. The Wax World Museum has a collection of wax sculptures, including Indian leaders and popular celebrities. The St. Stephen's Church is a beautiful colonial-style church built in 1829. It has beautiful stained-glass windows and is decorated in wooden interiors. If you have less time, you can skip the Tea Museum and Factory and replace it with a visit to the Avalanche Lake, a serene lake located amidst a dense forest.
