Ooty's Botanical Gardens is a sprawling garden with a tranquil atmosphere. The garden has a variety of flowers, trees, and shrubs, including some rare species, making it a must-visit destination. Though the garden is open from morning till evening, it is recommended to visit before noon on your first day, to avoid heavy crowds. You can take a stroll, enjoy the colorful blooms and the fresh air, and take a few photographs. The garden also has a tree train that takes you on a 20-minute ride up to a telescope house, where one can have a panoramic view of Ooty.
Doddabetta Peak, the highest peak in the Nilgiri mountain range, is an ideal place for relaxation and spectacular views, especially during sunrise and sunset. The peak is at a height of 8652ft above sea level, and the drive to the top is breathtaking, leading you through thick forests, dotted with eucalyptus and tea plantations. Once at the top, you can savor the panoramic view of the surroundings, including Ooty town, the hills of Coimbatore, and the Mysore Plateau. Doddabetta Peak is famous for bird-watching, and you can spot several rare and endangered species. You can also hike on the surrounding trails, soak in the tranquility of the peak and relax.
If you have more time, you can explore Ooty's Rose Garden and Thread Garden. Alternatively, if you have less time, you can skip Ooty's Botanical Gardens, go straight to Doddabetta Peak, and visit St. Stephen's Church or Ooty Lake in the afternoon. Also, wear comfortable shoes and carry a light jacket, as the weather can be unpredictable. Lastly, try some of the local delicacies at Chandan mess or Modern Stores, which serves excellent south Indian food.
