Mysore Palace, also known as the Amba Vilas Palace, is a historical palace located in Mysore, Karnataka. It is the official residence of the Wadiyar dynasty and was built in 1912. With its intricate architecture and decorative features, Mysore Palace is an excellent example of the Indo-Saracenic style of architecture. Visitors can take a guided tour of the many rooms and halls, including the Durbar Hall, which is adorned with impressive chandeliers and paintings. Additionally, the palace grounds are beautiful and feature several gardens and fountains.
Brindavan Gardens is a sprawling botanical garden located on the banks of the KRS Dam Reservoir. Created with the aim of creating a picturesque garden surrounding the Dam, the colorful illumination and the musical fountain show in the evening attracts scores of visitors daily and it's a sight to behold. The gardens are home to a wide variety of plants and trees, and there are several walking paths that visitors can take to explore the area. Additionally, there is a boating facility for tourists that provides mesmerizing views of the garden and the nearby dam. Night lighting show is available on all days except Tuesday's.
The Chamundeshwari Temple is a famous Hindu temple located atop the Chamundi Hills. Constructed in the early 12th century, it is one of the most important religious sites in the region. Dedicated to goddess Chamundeshwari, this temple is known for its elaborate and stunning architecture. The interior is adorned with intricate carvings and paintings. Visitors can climb the 1000 steps to reach the temple or take a drive up the winding road to the top of the hill. Upon arriving, visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of the city.
St. Philomena's Cathedral is a beautiful Christian church located in Mysore. Constructed in 1933, this neo-Gothic structure is inspired by the Cologne Cathedral in Germany. The cathedral is over 175 feet tall, making it one of the tallest churches in Asia. Visitors can explore the cathedral's interior, which is replete with stunning stained-glass windows, sculptures, and paintings. Interestingly, there are catacombs below the altar with several chambers.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Mysore Zoo, Jaganmohan Palace, or the Somanathapura temples. For those with less time, you can consider just visiting the Mysore Palace and one or two other nearby attractions. Additionally, take the time to enjoy the local cuisine and sample some famous Mysore Pak. Finally, do note, most places get closed by 8 pm so plan your itinerary accordingly.
