Located just a few steps away from Ramanathaswamy temple, Agnitheertham is one of the holiest bathing spots among Hindus. It is believed to cleanse sins. You can take a dip in the sea or bathe in the large freshwater tank. The place opens at 5:00 AM and closes at 7:00 PM. Early mornings and evenings are usually less crowded.
Dhanushkodi is a ghost town located at the southern tip of Rameswaram Island. It was destroyed by a devastating cyclone in 1964. You can take a unique ride on a four-wheel-drive to reach this abandoned town. You can also enjoy water sports activities and trekking. Dhanushkodi opens at 6:00 AM and closes at 6:00 PM.
A beautiful temple located on the way to Rameswaram, Lakshman Theertham is dedicated to the younger brother of Lord Rama. It is believed that Lord Rama and Lakshmana took a bath in this lake. You can also feed the fishes in the lake. The place opens at 5:00 AM and closes at 8:00 PM.
Pamban Bridge is a picturesque cantilever bridge that connects Rameswaram Island to mainland India. It is the second-longest sea bridge in India and the first of its kind in the country. The bridge is open 24 hours and offers beautiful views of the sea. You can also take a walk on the bridge and click some pictures.
Rameshwaram Beach is a pristine beach that is less crowded and perfect to spend a relaxing evening with your loved ones. You can also indulge in some beach activities like kite flying. The beach is open 24 hours, and you can witness beautiful sunsets.
If you have more time, you can add visits to other nearby places like Kalam National Memorial, Gandhamadhana Parvatham, and Adam’s Bridge. If you have less time, you can skip Dhanushkodi and Lakshman Theertham.
