Start your first day in Munnar by visiting the Kolukkumalai Tea Estate, the highest tea plantation in the region. Enjoy the beautiful views while sipping on some freshly brewed chai and learn about the history of Munnar's tea industry from friendly locals. Next, visit Lockhart Tea Museum, which showcases the evolution of tea processing in Munnar over the years. In the afternoon, take a guided tour of Tata Tea Museum which is just 5 min (1.3 km) from Lockhart Tea Museum. Learn about the tea-making process, take a walk through the tea estate, and taste some freshly brewed tea!
Start your day by visiting Matupetty Dam & Lake, a serene location with breathtaking views surrounded by tea gardens. You can opt for a boat ride or a good walk around the scenic trails. After this, you can visit Eravikulam National Park which is famous for its endangered Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goat of South India) and a variety of exotic flora and fauna. Be sure to keep your camera handy to capture the beautiful scenery. Finally, end your day relaxing at Kundala Lake, surrounded by lush green hills and an ideal location for a picnic with family and friends.
If you have more time in Munnar, I recommend visiting Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary which is famous for its giant grizzled squirrel and other endangered animals. You can also choose to go hiking in the nearby hills or visit the local spice gardens to learn about the region's exotic spices such as cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon. If you have less time, you can choose to skip Matupetty Dam & Lake, or Kundala lake and reduce your total trip time. Note: Most of these attractions close by 4 PM.
