Doddabetta is the highest peak in the Nilgiri Mountains, with breathtaking views of the valley from the top. Enjoy a trek through the mountains with moderate difficulty along the many trails. At the top, take in awe-inspiring panoramic views as you enjoy some delicious tea or coffee from the nearby shop. The peak is located near the Ooty town, so it is easily accessible from most hotels.
Kalhatty Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in the region, and the trek to the falls is an adventure in itself. The hike is a bit strenuous, but the views of the mountains and the cascading water make it worth it. Take a refreshing dip in the cold water and enjoy a picnic lunch before heading back to Ooty. Keep in mind, the falls are closed during the monsoon season (June through September).
Avalanche Lake is a stunning natural lake set amidst a picturesque valley. Enjoy a ride on the Nilgiri Toy Train before beginning the trek to the lake. The trek is a moderate one and takes you through the beautiful woods where you can witness several species of birds, a unique experience for bird enthusiasts. Once at the lake, take a peaceful boat ride and enjoy the serene views of the mountains while letting yourself relax in nature.
If you have more time, consider visiting the Sim's Park, Rose Garden and the Wax Museum. If you have less time, you can skip the Kalhatty Falls and spend more time enjoying the other activities. Wear appropriate footwear, carry blankets for the picnic lunch, and do not litter nature trails.
