Enjoy a short boat ride to the island from Nedunganda and explore the 100-year-old Shiva Parvathi Temple, lush coconut groves and mangroves.   2. Day 2: Varkala Beach and Cliff

If you have an additional day, visit Kappil Beach and Lake. A serene location with backwaters and beach front that's away from the hustle-bustle of Varkala. For adventure seekers, trek to the Illickal Kallu, where you will be greeted with a panoramic view of lush mountain ranges, waterfalls and exotic species of flora and fauna. Avoid traveling in the afternoons as the scorching sun could dampen your plans, opt for early mornings and later evenings. Do carry sunscreen, mosquito repellent and comfortable footwear.
