The Charminar is Hyderabad's most iconic landmark, built in 1591 by the city's founder Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah. This beautiful monument is made of granite and limestone, with four arches facing in four different directions. Visitors can climb to the top for a panoramic view of the old city. Around Charminar, there are many bazaars which specialize in traditional jewelry and clothing.
The Salar Jung Museum is one of the largest museums in India, with a collection of over 43,000 art objects dating back to the 1st century. The museum is home to many impressive pieces, including a musical clock, a wooden palace, and a 200-year-old manuscript. Visitors can also see the famous Veiled Rebecca statue, which is made entirely of marble.
The Chowmahalla Palace is a stunning building that was once the residence of the Nizams of Hyderabad. The palace has beautiful gardens and courtyards, and is known for its ornate architecture and intricate carvings. Visitors can also see the vintage car collection and the Khilwat Clock, which was manufactured by the same company that made Big Ben.
Golconda Fort is a majestic fortress dating back to the 13th century. The fort complex has several impressive structures within it, such as Fateh Darwaza (Victory Gate), which is said to be one of the tallest gateways in the world. Visitors can wander around the fort's many paths and stairways or take a guided tour to learn about its history.
The Qutub Shahi Tombs are the final resting place of the Qutub Shahi dynasty, who ruled over Hyderabad from 1518 to 1687. The tombs are housed in a picturesque garden, which is open to the public. Each tomb has its own unique architectural style, and visitors can also see the mosque and mortuary bath.
If you have extra time, visit the nearby Ramoji Film City, which is a popular film studio complex where you can see live film shoots, outdoor games, and amusement parks. If you have less time, skip the Qutub Shahi Tombs and spend more time at Golconda Fort or Salar Jung Museum. Remember to carry sunscreen, a hat, and plenty of water as Hyderabad can get quite hot in May.
