The Botanical gardens in Ooty or the Government Botanical Gardens as they are also known, were laid out in 1847 and are spread over 22 hectares. The numerous trees and plants include rare species of plants from all around the world. It is a perfect place for nature lovers and the ideal starting point to explore the floral diversity of the Nilgiri hills.
The Doddabetta peak is the highest peak in the Nilgiris with an elevation of 2,637 meters. Just 10km from Ooty, it offers breathtaking views of the Nilgiri Hills. There is a Telescope House at the top of the peak which is a major tourist attraction. A must-visit for nature lovers and photographers capturing the beauty of the Nilgiris.
Ooty Lake is a man-made lake that was built in 1824 to fashion an irrigation tank. Boating in Ooty Lake is a favorite tourist activity, especially during June when the weather is perfect. There are also plenty of options for horseback riding and cycling along the shore.
If you have extra time, you can add a visit to Pykara Waterfall or Avalanche Lake to your itinerary. If you have less time, skip the Botanical Gardens and head straight to Doddabetta Peak. Remember to check the weather before starting your day and plan accordingly.
